Position Overview

The ACLU of New Hampshire is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Digital Communications Manager. The Digital Communications Manager leads, develops, and implements online communications, marketing, advocacy, and outreach through innovative digital media strategies, utilizing our social media and digital platforms. They also help drive messaging, brand awareness, and audience engagement through digital strategies. They conceptualize, design, and distribute graphics for online campaigns, and grow the digital program by setting benchmarks based on best practices. In collaboration with and under the supervision of the Communications Director, the Digital Communications Manager will play a key role in strategizing and creating digital content to inspire, inform, and move people to action.

Core Accountabilities 

Digital Strategy Development – 45%

  • Develop and lead key digital communications strategies and campaigns to advance organizational goals, in collaboration with the Communications Director. This includes, but is not limited to, ACLU of NH social media channels, website, emails, and paid advertising.
  • Craft and implement creative, multi-faceted social strategies for advocacy, public education, and live events, as well as media, development, and marketing campaigns.
  • Identify high-impact opportunities to increase the visibility of the ACLU of NH's advocacy, programmatic, and legislative work, and generate demonstrated audience growth.
  • Identify emerging stories, rapid response moments, and social media trends, and accurately and swiftly engage in them.
  • Ensure accurate, consistent, and responsible campaigns that represent the ACLU of New Hampshire and its positions compellingly and convincingly.
  • Work collaboratively across all departments to develop digital communications strategies for priority campaigns, actions, and events.

Content Development and Communications Support – 45%

  • Plan, schedule, and implement a daily editorial calendar for social media posts, website content, and promotional emails.
  • Draft, copyedit, and post persuasive, data-driven written, graphic, and creative materials, including action alerts, social media and blog posts, action alerts, event pages, and more.
  • Oversee and closely collaborate with digital-focused external vendors.
  • Monitor, analyze, and present analysis of online engagement and campaign effectiveness to maximize additional opportunities and improve communications strategies.
  • Create thematic, branded, and eye-catching content (social media graphics, web banners, etc.) often on a moment's notice; capture, edit, caption, publish, and promote original social videos.
  • Manage multimedia assets including the development of graphics, management of stock imagery/footage, and digital asset management of the organization.
  • Maintain and act on knowledge of social and digital media platform evolutions and best practices, including accessibility standards.

Other Responsibilities – 10%

  • Special projects and other tasks as assigned by the Communications Director.

Requirements

  • At least three years professional experience in a digital communications role with creative messaging, social media strategy, audience development, and production experience. 
  • Expertise operating and managing major social media accounts, including on Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), and other platforms required.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with: Microsoft Office technology (Word, Excel, and Outlook); X (Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and emerging social media platforms; Adobe Creative Suite programs; social media listening, analytics, and management tools; and website and email management and analytics tools. Experience with Adobe video programs a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including ability to write clean, compelling copy on-deadline for a variety of digital formats and audiences, and to adapt talking points and messaging into both breaking news and longer-term digital campaigns.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and exercises good judgment in choosing among alternative courses of action.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent digital campaigns.
  • A commitment to civil liberties and the mission of the American Civil Liberties Union.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid driver’s license or be able to access adequate transportation for travel to community events.
  • The ability to work occasional evening, weekend, and irregular hours and to travel within the state as needed.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position will be $50,000 - $60,000. The ACLU-NH provides excellent benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, vision, dental insurance, generous paid-time-off, and a Defined Contribution 401K Retirement Plan.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to operate a computer, laptop, and other office equipment, as well as personal electronic devices in order to draft/write/design, communicate, and perform other functions of the job in a professional office setting. Position also requires the ability to attend and set-up community events with reasonable accommodations (i.e. setting up easels and writing pads, pop-up tents, and bottled water).
