On October 31, 2014, the ACLU-NH filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of three New Hampshire voters—including one member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives—challenging RSA 659:35(I) on the grounds that it violates the right to free speech under the First Amendment.

On March 10, 2015, the ACLU-NH wrote the Town of Alton explaining that the Town, in suppressing Mr. Clay's peaceful political speech, engaged in impermissible viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment.

The ACLU-NH filed a lawsuit challenging HB1542, a new state law passed that imposes onerous restrictions on third parties by compressing the time period to collect the number of signatures necessary to get on the ballot.

This case concerns the Farmington School District’s retaliation against a guidance counselor who sought independent legal counsel and successfully obtained a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) to protect her student’s right to privacy.

This case concerns an individual arrested and prosecuted under a statute previously ruled unconstitutional, raising the important question of whether the officer in question acted under a “reasonable belief” that their conduct was authorized by law.

The ACLU-NH filed a motion to dismiss criminal charges brought by an overly broad law passed in 2009 that restricts the legal and constitutionally-protected speech of all registered sex offenders in New Hampshire.

On September 1, 2015, the ACLU-NH filed an amicus brief in support of the disclosure to the Valley News, the Union Leader Corporation, and Hearst Properties, Inc. (including WMUR-TV) of the four (4) videos depicting the events surrounding the fatal police shooting of Hagen Esty-Lennon.

The City of Keene brought civil claims against individuals who engaged parking enforcement officials in a non-threatening manner, also seeking an injunction prohibiting these individuals’ constitutionally protected speech.

This suit challenges the NH law which would freeze out students and other mobile domiciliaries from federal and state elections. The law would require those registering to vote to sign an affidavit agreeing that they are subject to the state’s onerous and financially burdensome residency laws.
