Tell Your Lawmaker: Let Our Flags Fly!

The New Hampshire Senate is preparing to vote on a bill that would ban nearly all flags and banners at our public schools, with only a few exceptions. It would ban many items: from a happy birthday banner, to a college flag or flags celebrating graduates, to flags representing students' ancestry and pride flags, mental health awareness or bullying prevention month banners, and much more. If passed, this extreme bill would chill and restrict the free speech and expression rights of students and teachers, with very limited exceptions for even classroom lessons. In addition to negatively impacting the education of all students through classroom censorship, it would also create a chilling effect for students or even limit displays of student artwork or club activities. It would create unwelcoming environments for both teachers and students, especially students from the LGBTQ community and immigrant families. Our First Amendment rights to free speech and expression do not simply disappear at the front doors of our schools. Tell your state senator to stop the classroom censorship and OPPOSE HB 1132.

Tell NH Lawmakers: No book bans in NH

Soon, New Hampshire lawmakers will be voting on a bill that would allow the banning of books in our state's classrooms, which would restrict free speech, create a chilling effect for educators across NH, and make it easier for one parent to ban books in classrooms and school libraries across the Granite State. The right to free expression includes the freedom to read whatever we choose. Yet our state government is attempting to make it easier to ban books right here in New Hampshire. There's no time to wait: tell your state lawmakers to oppose SB 434 when they vote soon!

Tell Governor Ayotte: No bathroom bans or discrimination in NH

Right now, a slate of six cruel bills that would roll back critical anti-discrimination protections are making their way through the state legislature and could soon land on Governor Ayotte's desk, where she could sign or veto them. Both this year and last year, Governor Ayotte vetoed similar bills because they would have violated the civil rights of Granite Staters under state and federal law, and this time is no different. We need your help: tell Governor Ayotte that hate and discrimination have no place in New Hampshire and that LGBTQ people, specifically the transgender community, are guaranteed equal protection under the law and belong in the Granite State.
