CONCORD, N.H. – The American Civil Liberties Union of New Hampshire (ACLU-NH) has hired Ariana Schechter as its Communications Director, a new role for the growing ACLU affiliate.

Previously, Schechter served as Assistant Deputy Press Secretary to New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and as Press Aide to former Lieutenant Governor Robert J. Duffy, where she helped form the communications strategy around issues in New York State such as criminal justice reform, women’s rights, and marriage equality.

“Ariana has a breadth of experience in shaping communications around statewide issues and a demonstrated passion and commitment to protecting civil rights,” said Devon Chaffee, Executive Director of the ACLU-NH. “We are thrilled that she is joining the ACLU team here in New Hampshire, where we will continue to promote civil liberties for every Granite Stater.”

Most recently, Schechter was the Marketing and Brand Strategy Manager at the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, where she directed major marketing and communications campaigns to help promote local food and beverage businesses.
