Summary

“Censorship: Readers, Authors and Society”

Water Street Bookstore and the ACLU NH invite you to their 11th annual Banned Book Week event!

Join us in a discussion on the current state of censorship, how it impacts readers, authors, and what it means to live in a free society.

We'll celebrate our 1st amendment rights with live readings of censored works.

Refreshments will be provided.

"Banned Together" Screening

Banned Together is a documentary that follows three students as they fight to reinstate 97 books suddenly pulled from their school libraries. As they evolve from local to national activists the film reveals the dark forces behind the accelerating wave of book bans in the U.S., and the continued harassment of educators and librarians.

We will be joined by the film's Director Kate Way!

There will be time for questions and discussions, along with refreshments.

"1984" Read-In

George Orwell's dystopian novel "1984" is about censorship, government overreach, privacy and the manipulation of truth. Its message is a warning we can't ignore.

On Sunday 10/11 starting at 8am we will be hosting a live read in of 1984! Where community members can come and read 15 minute portions of the book throughout the day.

Please sign up to be a reader with the fifteen minute increments or stop by anytime from 8am to 6pm and listen to this unique experience. You can select more than one slot if you're looking to read!

Refreshments will be provided.
