The ACLU of New Hampshire (ACLU-NH) seeks a full-time Immigration Legal Fellow in Concord, New Hampshire. This is a two-year, limited-term position. This position requires residence in New Hampshire and traveling to Dover and Berlin, New Hampshire. The fellowship will principally focus on immigration law.

Job Description

The legal fellow will report to SangYeob Kim, the ACLU-NH’s Senior Staff Attorney specializing in immigration law. The legal fellow will conduct immigration legal intakes and participate in immigration litigation and advocacy to protects immigrants’ rights, particularly those who are in detention.

The legal intern’s duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting intakes at immigration detention facilities in New Hampshire, including at the Federal Correctional Facility in Berlin, New Hampshire.
  • Conducting legal research for current and potential cases and non-litigation advocacy projects.
  • Litigating habeas corpus and petitions for review in federal courts in New Hampshire and Boston, Massachusetts.
  • Engaging in public speaking and articulating ACLU of NH’s views to a variety of audience on a broad range of immigrants’ rights issues.
  • Facilitating and participating in Know-your-Rights presentations addressing immigration-related issues.
  • Assisting Senior Staff Attorney for immigration matters.
  • Other duties as needed.

Compensation

This position includes an annual salary of $75.000. The ACLU-NH provides excellent benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, vision, dental insurance, generous paid-time off, and a defined contribution 401K retirement plan.

Preferred Qualifications

  • J.D. degree and N.H. Bar membership.
  • Immigration litigation experience in federal courts and immigration agency.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team. Ability to foster and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex legal analytical work.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and speak clearly and persuasively.
  • Self-motivated, diligent and able to meet strict deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to travel to Berlin or Dover, New Hampshire, on short notice.
  • Demonstrated experience working in immigrant community settings and immigration detention.
