The American Civil Liberties Union of New Hampshire (ACLU-NH) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization dedicated to preserving the individual rights and liberties guaranteed in the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. ACLU-NH, founded in 1968 by a small group of devoted civil libertarians, is one of 53 affiliates of the ACLU Nationwide.

With crossover behind us, we are now in the second half of the 2023 legislative session. While the pace of the session has slowed, the stakes remain high as bills are now moving through their second chamber (meaning those that pass are now just a governor’s signature away from becoming law).

A Good Day in Concord (relatively speaking of course)

Valentine's Day 2023 was far from ideal. On that day, Governor Chris Sununu delivered his budget address to a joint session of the New Hampshire legislature. And, as the details of his proposed budget were released in HB 1 and HB 2 (the budget bills), it became clear that the Governor sought to use the budget process as a vehicle to drastically expand policing and incarceration in the Granite State.
